An exhibit of artwork by Brazilian-born artist Boscco is set to open at ART Station this weekend.
Boscco, who lives in Atlanta, approached the gallery about creating an exhibit roughly a year ago.
"We took a look at his body of work and thought it was very exciting," said gallery manager Jon Goldstein. "He has a sense of abandonment about his work that makes it very accessible as he relates to the everyday lives of the youth in our country."
"I do try not to buy into the prevalent tastes in 2009 of what art really should do and look like," Boscco said of his work. "Whatever you will see in the show is a representation of my vision, what art means specifically, first and foremost, to myself."
The 51-year-old said freedom to select his subject matter and materials is very important to him.
"I'm independent," he said. "I was to be a trendsetter, not a trend follower. I want to be someone that is doing really something unique, very unique artistic expression."
An opening reception for the exhibit, titled "Boscco's People," will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and is free and open to the public. The exhibit will be on display from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays through May 16.
ART Station is located at 5384 Manor Drive in Stone Mountain.
